City 2nd District Councilmember Changes

At the Colton City Council Meeting on September 14, 2017,  the council appointed Ernie Cisneros Jr. to represent the 2nd District’s vacated position by Summer Zamora Jorrin in July.  Originally, the city council wanted to hold a special election for the vacant seat, but Council member Frank Navarro suggested at a September 5th meeting that the council may want to consider appointing a new district representative instead of going through an election process.  At a previous August 21 vote held by the Council (Mayor Richard DeLaRosa being absent)  there was a deadlock vote on two perspective candidates who stepped forward for the position, Mike Razo and Frank Gonzales, where each candidate received 2 votes each in favor and 2 votes against,  and because there was no consensus, the council proceeded to vote for a special election (3-2) to hold a special election next April to have the residents select who they wanted.  Once Mayor DeLaRosa had reviewed the August 21 meeting notice, he talked with the candidates and residents and expressed his feelings that “it is was important to fill the seat for the District 2 residents right now and not in April of 1918, because the residents need representation.”. DeLaRosa said, “We have very capable candidates to choose from.”  At the last meeting, Mayor DeLaRosa motioned to appoint Utility Commissioner Richard Cisneros to the vacant seat with support from Councilmembers Frank Navarro, Dr. Luis Gonzalez, Jack Woods, and Isaac Suchil.
