Library to Celebrate Local Authors

In honor of National Library Week, authors from throughout Southern California have been invited to discuss their works and sell and sign books at the Norman F. Feldheym Central Library, Saturday, April 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is an opportunity to meet local authors and authors from around Southern California who represent many genres; including fiction, non-fiction, science fiction, fantasy, poetry, political cartoons, children’s books, young adult books, local history, and mysteries. Over 30 authors, poets and cartoonists have confirmed their participation; including Liz Acosta, David Brown, Patricia Buford, Norman E. Edelen, Terri Elders, M.M. Gornell, Alice Hall, Tracy Holmes, Mary Ruth Hughes, Ratibu Jacocks, Paulina Jaramillo, Arthelia Jones, Mike Kennedy, Deshea Markham, T'ana Phelice, Gail Picado, Michael Raff, Gina Rider, Lara Rios AKA Julia Amante, Andree Robinson-Neal, Fred Smith, Roberta Smith, Vickie Taylor, Rhea-Frances Tetley, Maria Toth, Judith Valles, John Weeks, Gary & Isabel Walbourne, Al Ward, Herb Williams, Lynn Williams, Beth Winokur and Phil Yeh. Various authors will be speaking in the Bing Wong Auditorium during the event. Lara Rios/Julia Amante will be speaking about writing women's fiction with an emphasis on Latino culture at 11 a.m.; Norman E. Edelen will be discussing his detective trilogy, "After A While You Wonder," at noon; Mike Kennedy will be discussing his book “Filling up the Hole” at 1 p.m.; and Terri Elders will read one of her stories from “Not Your Mothers…” at 2 p.m. A small sampling of the books that will be available at the event include the following: John Weeks is a former columnist for the San Bernardino County Sun. A few of his books are "Window Beyond the World," a ghostly novel set in the San Bernardino Mountains; "Inland Empire," a vintage postcard history of the region's glory days; "Mojave Desert," a pictorial history of the most popular desert on Earth; and "Choice Words," a book on the art of writing that includes an essay by John Howard Weeks. Rhea-Frances Tetley will have her books "Lake Arrowhead Chronicles," "Crestline Chronicles," "Images of America: Crestline," and "Images of America: Lake Arrowhead" available. Author Liz Acosta writes books such as "30 Days to a Better World Starting with Me," "A Walk in Their Shoes" and "Ancient Wisdom Common Ground." Andreé Robinson-Neal will have her new book, “After," available, while M.M. Gornell writes a series of Route 66 mysteries. Maria Cisneros Toth writes middle-grade novels and Gary & Isabel Walbourne write "Guardians of the Dragon," a middle grade series. Al Ward writes about hypnotism. T'ana Phelice writes urban fiction. Terri Elders writes for the Chicken Soup for the Soul series and will also have “Not Your Mother’s Book…on Sex” and “Not Your Mother's Book…on Travel" on site. Tracy Holmes and Victoria Taylor both write children’s books and Phil Yeh writes kid-friendly graphic novels and comics for all ages. Some of the books he will have are “Dinosaurs across America,” and “Theo the Dinosaur." David Brown produces award-winning political cartoons, graphics novels and comic books with positive messages for young people. He is a political cartoonist for the Los Angeles Sentinel.
