Art in the Streets of LA

When roaming the streets of LA everyone can see art from every street corner that they turn. One thing is for sure that each artist has their own unique flair and style. One artist in particular that sticks out among the streets of LA is, Sand One. Her use of vibrant colors and doll like portrayals catch the eyes of street walkers and those driving by.

Sand One started her creative path in 2010 and has been thriving ever since. Her murals and paintings can be located all over the streets of LA. Some on the sides of markets, inside of alleys, and even behind a dentist’s office. Each work of art with its own story and one of a kind.

In one mural she was commissioned by a man in love. This man asked Sand One to paint a mural of the love his life with a penguin. For penguins, when one gives another a pebble that means that they want that penguin to be their mate for life. Sand One painted a beautiful mural of a penguin giving a pebble to a doll like replica of this woman. The man brought the woman to the mural and proposed to her. The couple are now engaged, and the mural is still there.

Sand One gets commissioned by all different types of people. From fans to companies. She produces small products like canvases and then she creates the bigger paintings like wall murals in alleys or on the side of a market. She has produced artwork that was inspired by autism, as well as the famous singer, Selena. Each one of her paintings is special and holds meaning to it. Unfortunately, due to people not knowing the importance of her work or due to lack of respect, many of her works of art have been tagged and graffitied over. While her work still shines through, it’s a sad scene to take in this beautiful art and have parts of it masked by those who were not able to value it in the same way.

She has not only painted in the streets of LA but she has gone all over traveling and sharing her artistic visions with the rest of the world. From Miami to Vegas and from New York to Puerto Rico. She strives to share her art with the rest of the world and is working to achieve this. Due to her unique style, she has become recognizable to many eyes. From her infamous dolls to their large eyes and the unique curves and swirls she uses in all of her paintings. On her website, Sand One writes, “You can’t be scared to gamble your life away into a world of dreams and uncertain goals. You just have to struggle a bit, wake up, and seek to awaken that dream.” She holds as a true inspiration to other artists and those with a creative eye. She paints what she loves and she does it with a passion and it clearly shows in all of her works.
