The San Bernardino County Museum, in partnership with the Southern California Black Chamber of Commerce, presents an art exhibit featuring the works of prominent African American artists from throughout Southern California to recognize Black History Month. “African Americans Press On Through Art and Media” opens at the Museum on Feb. 1 and continues through Feb. 25.
Artists participating in the exhibit include Charles A. Bibbs (Riverside, CA), Synthia Saint James (Los Angeles), Aziz Diagne (Los Angeles), Bernard Hoyes (Desert Hot Springs), Aldonia R. Bailey (Altadena), Gary V. Lett (Pomona), Heather Hilliard Bonds (Pasadena), John Lloyd McClinton (Paramount), and Roscoe Lee Owens (Pasadena).
“The Southern California Black Chamber of Commerce is honored to work with the San Bernardino County Museum on this project to introduce everyone to Black art and culture,” said Willie Ellison, COO for the Southern California Black Chamber of Commerce. “We look forward to making this an annual event.”
The museum’s curator of visitor engagement & exhibits, David Myers, said, “we’re excited to launch this partnership with the Southern California Black Chamber of Commerce. This exhibit is an opportunity for the museum to continue to expand our cultural programming and celebrate the contributions of people from all backgrounds and experiences.”
“This Black History art exhibition demonstrates a new energy, willingness, and determination to stay purely creative artists,” said Bibbs. “Our youth will continue to press forward to achieve and evolve artistically to meet the challenges of an ever-changing art world.”
The San Bernardino County Museum’s exhibits of regional cultural and natural history and the Museum’s other exciting events and programs reflect the effort by the Board of Supervisors to achieve the Countywide Vision by celebrating arts, culture, and education in the county, creating quality of life for residents and visitors.
