When you go to the Central Library in the City of San Bernardino, you will soon be able to check out more than books. The wildly popular American Girl Dolls will be available for checkout at the Feldheym Central Library beginning in late August. The doll kits include a doll, carrying case, a book about the doll, and a journal.

This project, which is funded by the San Bernardino City Library Foundation, is designed to provide an engaging learning experience for children in our community. Children will get the opportunity to take home and play with the beloved dolls. They will learn about the characters and their place in fictional American history by reading the books. Children will also contribute to an ongoing story while improving their writing skills by recording the adventures they had with the doll in the journal.

To kick off the American Girl Doll project, the Library Foundation is inviting youth between the ages of 8-12 to an American Girl Doll Kickoff Tea on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Kellogg Rooms at the Feldheym Central Library The dolls will be introduced at this time.

“As far as we know, we will be the first library on the West Coast to adopt this program that began in the East”, said Linda Yeh, the Library Program Coordinator.

Mrs. Claus from Santa’s Village and Lynn Summers of the Master Preserver’s Class will be serving the tea.

The event is free but space is limited. You can register for the tea in the Children’s Room at the Feldheym Central library or by calling 909-381-8235. The deadline for registration is August 10.

Attendees are welcome to dress as their favorite American Girl character or dress up for a tea party.
