Watercolor Artist Jim Salchak Covers the Importance of Selective Vision

Watercolor artist Jim Salchak will present a lecture and demonstration on the importance of selective vision through simplification and focus during the March meeting of the Loma Linda Cultural Arts Association, which will be held Sunday, March 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Loma Linda Senior Center, 25541 Barton Road, in Loma Linda. Salchak will demonstrate how design, value, and color work together to produce a strong composition. His 40-year career in watercolor has won recognition from numerous local and national juried exhibitions, including the American Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, and the Nevada and San Diego Watercolor Societies. He is past president of both the National Watercolor Society and Watercolor West, and has served as a juror for local and national exhibitions. A special interest in the watercolor art of John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) led Salchak to developing illustrated lectures on Sargent’s life and work, which he has presented to many art organizations. Although of particular interest to artists working in water-based media, Salchak’s emphasis on strong composition and color choice will interest all painters. To learn how to simplify is the key to avoiding overworking, a danger that threatens every creative endeavor.
