GRAND TERRACE>> Girl Scout Troop 76 is working hard to help show appreciation for the veterans in the local community with the help of delicious cookies that the community can enjoy. I CARE is a tax-deductible Girl Scouts program that allows portions of the sales to be donated to veterans, the Ronald McDonald House, woman’s shelters and other organizations. Julia Firnkoess is the mother of Ava Firnkoess, a girl scout in Troop 76, and said the troop is working to sell cookies so the money can go toward the Veterans Wall of Freedom event in May in Grand Terrace. Firnkoess said Troop 76, a troop that was formed in December 2016, received approval from the Girl Scouts Council that they could receive donations that will go directly toward donations for the Veterans Wall of Freedom event in May at Veteran’s Park in Grand Terrace. Troup 76 will be present at the event and will have the opportunity to hand deliver cookies to the veterans that are there until the cookies are gone. “We would love the community to participate in this,” Firnkoess said. “If you see any Girl Scouts, ask to have them donated to the Wall of Freedom so they can receive these cookies. You can say ‘thank you’ for their service.” Firnkoess said it is a way to pay it forward to the veterans and encourages the community to participate. “If you can’t eat them, treat them,” Firnkoess said. “I love that were doing this for our veterans.” Firnkoess said a majority of the cookie revenue goes directly to the troop which goes toward the troop doing activities throughout the year. “Some girls can’t afford it so it is a very positive thing,” Firnkoess said. “And they can go together as group."
