San Bernardino City Schools Recognized for Student Achievement

SAN BERNARDINO >> Five San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) campuses have been honored for leading the way in student academic achievement while serving many economically disadvantaged children. The Educational Results Partnership and the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence, a national alliance of businesses and educators dedicated to improving educational outcomes, have honored Hillside, Kimbark, and Kendall Elementary Schools; Richardson PREP HI Middle School; and Middle College High School, for boosting student learning and preparing students for college and careers. The honor is based on an extensive analysis of student data for every public school in California, particularly in economically disadvantaged school districts. The five SBCUSD schools are among 1,714 high-performing, high-poverty schools in the state that are distinguished as 2015 California Honor Roll recipients. Honor Roll schools are those that demonstrate consistently high levels of student achievement, improvement in achievement over time, and reduced learning gaps. Middle College High was also recognized for its high number of students who are ready to succeed in college. It is no coincidence that this latest honor comes at a time when San Bernardino City Schools are celebrating a record-high graduation rate for the Class of 2015, according to Superintendent Dr. Dale Marsden. He said both milestones are evidence the district is removing obstacles and boosting momentum along the road from cradle to career. “This is an honor our entire community can celebrate,” Marsden said. “Our teachers and school administrators work tirelessly to keep the focus on high expectations and student academic achievement, and to continuously improve our practices. This hard work and dedication is paying off for all our students, no matter their background.” The annual Honor Roll award is made possible by support from numerous businesses and organizations, including State Farm, AAA, Macy’s, Wells Fargo, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and several private foundations.
