Citrus Belt Quilters will hold its biannual quilt show on Saturday, Oct. 24 and Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Yucaipa Community Center, 34900 Oak Glen Road, Yucaipa. The show will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, and will include several area vendors, raffle baskets, and a quilt challenge with the theme “Change.” In addition to over 150 quilts, the show will feature the Home of the Brave Project, which provides a Civil War replica quilt to the families of soldiers killed in the line of duty in the wars in Afghanistan and Iran. This nation-wide project originated with members of Citrus Belt Quilters, who wanted to honor fallen military service men and women after 9/11. The Home of the Brave Display will feature quilts and a video presentation on the history of the project. Don Beld, CBQ member and Civil War historian, started this project in 2004 and was recently read into the Congressional Record for his achievement in making it a national, grassroots project honoring fallen service men and women. The show’s boutique will be open to the public (no wristband required) and stocked with quilted items, such as bowl cozies, tortilla warmers/baked potato bags, tote bags, coasters, and, of course, quilts. There will also be free activities, suitable for children and adults, such as helping sew a community service quilt, rug weaving and a make-and-take coloring block. Admission is $5 presale and $7 at the door. Husbands and children under 12 are free, and strollers and wheelchairs are welcome. Presale wristbands may be purchased by sending a SASE and a check made to CBQ to: Eileen Torrence, 33600 Calimesa Blvd. #4, Yucaipa, CA 92399. CBQ would like to promote the quilting arts to future generations, and so invite Scout troops, 4H clubs, and school or youth groups to attend. Scout troops, 4H clubs, and school or youth groups may receive two free wristbands for admission by contacting Cindy Chrisler prior to the show, via the guild’s website at citrusbeltquilters.org. Groups that visit the quilt show may also request a volunteer to guide them through show highlights, and will be provided with an age-appropriate “I Spy” game to enhance the experience. Citrus Belt Quilters proudly donates charity quilts to many area facilities, such as the Loma Linda VA Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House, Wildwood Canyon Villa, Santa Claus Inc., Children and Family Services of San Bernardino County, and Yucaipa Family Assistance. We hope to see all members of the community at our show as we demonstrate our love of quilting and the benefits it brings to people of all ages.
