MORENO VALLEY >> Last Thursday, June 2, at about 10:20 a.m., officers from the Moreno Valley Police Department received information about a subject armed with a handgun on the Canyon Springs High School campus located within the 23000 block of Cougar Canyon Road. As a precautionary measure, the school was placed on lock down while officers arrived and assessed the situation. As a response to the report, officers from the Moreno Valley Police Department, in cooperation with the Moreno Valley Unified School District, responded and conducted a systematic search of the school campus. Several members of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) also responded to assist. Under an abundance of caution, nearby Vista Heights Middle School was also placed on lock down. An extensive search was conducted, but officers did not locate any weapons on campus and no one was arrested. At approximately 2:30 p.m., the lock down at both Canyon Springs High School and Vista Heights Middle School were lifted and students were released and able to leave campus.
