The Inland Empire Valley Flute Society (IEVFS) will be hosting a Flute Choir Festival Concert on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. The event will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Redlands, located at 100 Cajon Street in Redlands. The event will feature performances by three groups: Silver Sounds Flute Ensembles of Redlands directed by Jackie Aronowitz, the Lake Arrowhead Flute Choir, directed by Dr. Dee Anna Ogden Phd., and La Bernardina directed by JulieEdwards-Matanga. La Bernardina is dedicated to the exploration of early music, from the Medieval period to the Baroque, on period instruments. All groups will combine at the end for a group sight-reading session. Members of the public who play the flute are invited to bring their flutes and participate in the sight-reading session. The concert will include pieces from a widerange of musical genres. In addition, a wide range of flutes will be used. The groups make use of alto flute, bass flute, E-flat flute, as well as the traditional C-flute and piccolo. La Bernardina makes use of period instruments from medieval to baroque. The concert is open to the public. A suggested donation is $5.00, with all proceeds going to the Inland Empire Valley Flute Society scholarship fund, which pays for flute lessons for local students. For more information, contact IEVFS Events Coordinator Jackie Aronowitz at 909-335-1833.
