$100,000 in Damages Prevented

A structure fire occurred in Moreno Valley at the intersection of Cottonwood Ave. and Nason St. at approximately 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Dec. 6. The thick black smoke could be seen throughout the valley. The fire was contained to several outbuildings. Firefighters battled the blaze and contained it within 40 minutes. An aggressive attack by firefighters kept the fire from extending to the residence. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. According to the Riverside County Fire Department, the fire was contained to 1/2 acre of a residential lot and resulted in no injuries. Firefighters kept the fire from spreading to adjacent structures. An estimated $50,000 of damages was caused by the blaze, and $100,000 of damage was prevented. Thirty-eight firefighters responded to the call via nine engine companies, two truck companies, and two overhead personnel. The fire started in a vehicle then spread to three structures on the property. The road was closed at Nason St. between Cottonwood Ave. and Church, as well as Cottonwood Ave. for approximately four hours. The agencies who worked together in response to the fire were: American Medical Response, CAL FIRE/Riverside, Riverside County Fire Department, Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, Southern California Edison, and Southern California Gas Company.
