GTHS Fall Festival Leads into Powder-Puff Championship

The Annual Fall Festival at Grand Terrace High School (GTHS) lead into an intense championship powder-puff football game on Thursday, Nov. 20 on the GTHS campus. As soon as the bell rang for school to end on Thursday, various clubs throughout Grand Terrace High School were ready to for a mob of their fellow students to come lining up at their booths. Clubs like ASB, Peer Group, Renaissance, and even various athletic groups didn’t miss this opportunity to fund-raise for their group. Each club sold different products, mostly food, beverages, and goodies. Not only did the students get to enjoy the afternoon with food and friends while supporting their school’s clubs, there was also multiple performances going on for their entertainment. The club booths and festivities were set up in the quad area on campus. Performing students performed their talent in the outdoor amphitheater. The performances varied from solo and group acts of singing and dancing. “This event isn’t only an opportunity for the clubs to fund-raise, but it’s mainly to bring the students together so they can get to know their fellow classmates and have a good time in a safe place after school hours,” Leilani Bautista, ASB director for GTHS, shared. The festival brought over 500 students together to share the traditional fall food, entertainment and activities. Right after the festival, attendees were encouraged to walk over to the football field for the GTHS powder-puff football championship game between the various classes; seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen. The seniors were vested by the sophomores in the first game, and then the juniors defeated the freshmen which lead to the championship game between the juniors and sophomores. For a week prior to the game, the school's Varsity football players and coaching staff trained and mentored the each powder-puff teammate. “These games wouldn’t have happened without the coaches and varsity players,” Bautista said. “Plus, the coaches loved watching their players take the leadership role by coaching the girls.” With a stadium packed with support, attendees watched as juniors took the championship. Bautista added chuckling, “Between the two events, I’m exhausted and I’m sure everyone else is too… it’s been a fun week here.”
