Colton police are seeking more information regarding a felony evasion and grand theft auto that took place through city streets on Wednesday afternoon, July 22. A release from the Colton Police Department states that suspects Steven Vice, 25, of Redlands, and Nicole Venegas, 26, of Redlands, were taken into custody after a traffic stop escalated into a high-speed pursuit and ended in a single-vehicle collision. The release states that just after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, Vice and Venegas were driving in a white 2003 Chevrolet truck, which was stopped by a Colton police officer in the area of Loma Verde and Loma Rojas. According to police, when the officer approached the vehicle, Vice, who was driving, accelerated the vehicle and fled the scene. Police said a vehicle chase ensued through city streets, with speeds reaching over 100 miles per hour, with Vice driving through oncoming traffic and red lights as he was being pursued. According to the report, "The truck became disabled after hitting a curb and came to a stop in a dirt field near Award and Fairway. Vice fled from the vehicle leaving his passenger (Venegas) behind. After a short foot pursuit, Vice was taken into custody." Police said the truck the suspects were driving was also discovered to be reported as stolen out of San Bernardino on July 21. Vice was found to be on probation for possession of stolen property out of San Bernardino County and had an active felony warrant for his arrest, police said. Vice and Venegas were placed under arrest and booked in the San Bernardino County Jail, police said. Anyone with any additional information is encouraged contact Detective Mike Collins at 909-370-5000.
