Public Hearing Set for Proposed Increases in Solid Waste Fees

Grand Terrace residents recently received notification that the Grand Terrace City Council will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 11, regarding proposed adjustments to solid waste and recycling rates and charges. The hearing is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 22795 Barton Road. In accordance with Proposition 218, residents may protest this proposed adjustment either in person at the public hearing or in writing at City of Grand Terrace, City Clerk, 22795 Barton Road, Grand Terrace, California, 92313. Grand Terrace contracts with Burrtec Waste Industries for the provision of solid waste and recycling collection services and charges rates to recover costs associated with providing solid waste and recycling services to customers. Residential: For residential service,t he proposed rate adjustment will result in approximately 4.8 percent increase in the rate charged. The rate includes the collection, disposal and processing feeds, city administrative fee, pavement impact fee, street sweeping fee and household hazardous waste fee. The current residential rate fee is $22.86 per month for standard- 96 gallon residential refuse services. The proposed rate would be $23.85 per month. Commercial: For commercial service, the proposed rate adjustment will result in approximately 13 percent increase in the refuse rate charged. The rate includes the collection, disposal and processing fees, city administrative fee, pavement impact fee and street sweeping fee. The current rate for commercial front load refuse, 96-gallon, is $31.78 per month. The proposed rate would is $32.87. Multi-Family Housing: For multi-family housing, the proposed rate adjustment will include a fee for household hazardous waste services along with the collection, disposal and processing fees, city administrative fee, pavement impact fee and street sweeping fee. The proposed rate for a two-family household with the lowest service frequency is $99.90 per month. Please see the attached Exhibit A for further rate information.
