Moreno Valley Offers a Spine-Chilling Festival

Halloween wasn’t over just yet at the Cottonwood Golf Center on Saturday night, Nov. 1. The Halloween festival began at about 6 p.m., where everyone was invited to join the fall festivities and activities for kids. Community members were encouraged to wear costumes although masks were not allowed. Small refreshments including popcorn and drinks were available at the festival. The event was ran by high school student volunteers from throughout the community. Jessica, a Vista Del Lago High School student, said, “The haunted house seems to be the most fun… it is funny to scare people.” There was a bouncy house for kids to play in, bean bag games with candy-corn themed boards, and many more little games for children to enjoy. A small pond on the golf course invited attendees to visit and feed the ducks. On the other side of the parking lot was another thrilling activity. In a big white tent, a “spine-chilling” haunted house and maze for the older kids was available. As attendees entered the house, a fog machine filled the air, leaving hardly any visibility. In the first little corner, a bloody clown was seen sitting in a chair very still, waiting for his next victim. Throughout the maze were different scary-themed areas including a clown area, wolf area, and creepy dolls. As attendees walked out of the haunted house, they may have thought the thrill was over and the scaring had come to an end; however, there were bloody zombies waiting for people to come out of the maze so they can give them one last frightening scare. Jessica and Alexis, both Vista Del Lago High School students, volunteered to help out at the festival to earn community volunteer hours. “This is one of the most fun events to volunteer to help at,“ Jessica shared. Alexis added, “Seeing all the little kids in their costumes is always a fun sight.”
