COLTON >> More than 700 community members and participants danced the night away while listening to The Smooth Groove Band during the Concert in the Park series event July 17. The community came to enjoy the free concert and featured live entertainment, a kids zone and food. Intermission entertainment was provided by Colton Community Services' Heart & Soul Line Dance class and music by DJ Carlos Alba Jr. Participants enjoyed the music of The Smooth Groove Band, a local band that plays old school hits as well as cumbias, R&B, rock, blues and Tex Mex. For the children, jumpers in the kid zone were made available so they could have fun, too. In addition to the fun festivities, $255 was raised in the opportunity drawing for Colton Parks & Recreation Foundation. Colton Community Services hosted the event at Fleming Park, located at 525 N. La Cadena Drive. Upcoming concert series include Sok Monkey July 24, Midnite Cruzers July 31 and Mariachi Halcones de Jalisco Aug. 7. Healthy Colton, a city initiative to promote a healthy lifestyle, had a booth so guests were able to learn more about the free program. The program includes the opportunity to take a free ride to the Farmers Market in Redlands on the second Thursday of each month. For those interested in getting a ride to the Farmer's market, the next opportunity will be Aug. 11. Free transportation is provided for the first 9 adults to sign up. For those attending, it is required to meet by 5 p.m. at the Hutton Community Center located at 660 Colton Avenue. Participants will depart at 5:30 p.m. and return by 8:30 p.m. For more information about the Healthy Colton initiative or the Concert in the Park events, call Colton Community Services at (909)370.6153.
