The Contemporary Club, Redlands' reading group in conjunction with Yucaipa High School Advanced Theatre class, is presenting a mystery play at the club house, 173 South Eureka Street in Redlands at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. The upcoming show will include an intermission with dessert, tea and coffee provided in the cost of the ticket. The show, "Velocity," is a short, futuristic story by Kamron Klitgaard and is directed by YHS seniors Lexi Johnson and Julie Cress. The plot requires the cast to solve a mystery: how did these people wind up where they are, moving at various rates of speed, and not remembering exactly how they got there? The cast includes Maddie Boyd, Dru Bujanda Bland, Breanna DeHetre, Charissa Guldemond, Amanda Gonzales, Jessica Sandoval, Seth Underwood and Sabrina Yee. Taylor Wood is also featured in the production. Phoenix Gomez is providing the set design, and Ariel Suarez is working with costumes. Production staff includes Luisa Santa Farias and Samantha Antinucci. Director Lexi Johnson remarked, "This is the best cast I've ever worked with, and I am very excited to share this wonderful play with the citizens of the world!" According to director Julie Cress, "This is my first actual show that I've directed, and I am happy to say that I enjoy working with the entire cast and seeing the show live will certainly be an experience. I'm excited!" The show is produced under the direction of drama instructor Linda de Baun. The Contemporary Club is hoping to make this an annual event, perhaps expanding it the future to a full murder mystery theater event with a catered meal provided. To reserve a space for this year's show, please call 909-793-0518 or 909-307-0091.
