On Sunday, November 19th about 80 people from the community of Colton gathered in a campaign to keep Colton clean and beautiful. Part of this campaign consisted of three different cleanups in different parks from the months of September to January. As one of the sponsors of the campaign, about 50 members of the World Mission Society Church of God worked together to beautify Elizabeth Davis Park. The Park is located in the city of Colton and offers recreational facilities such as playgrounds, a picnic area, basketball courts and a baseball field for the residents. Volunteers began working early in the morning to beautify the park. The work consisted of covering the benches and tables with a coat of fresh green or beige paint and cleaning up the park. Additionally, workers painted park bleachers, barbecue grills, and children added painting hand prints to specific areas.  All the participants worked with great enthusiasm and showed up with their paint brushes and equipment to give the picnic tables a brand-new look. The members were excited to restore the park for the families of the city of Colton. Alondra Leon expressed, “It’s amazing to see so many different people from Colton gather together to restore and clean our local park. I believe that in order to see change in the world, we have to be that change and everyone really displayed that.”

Local residents of the city of Colton were very happy that they were able to participate in the clean up as well. Joe Rangel explained, “I’m so glad that the members of the church were able to come out to clean the park and help paint graffiti areas. I was grateful that I had the opportunity to participate in restoring the Elizabeth Davis Park. We had a great time!”

This event has been one of many collaborative events between the city of Colton and the World Mission Society Church of God. The Colton city council has previously recognized the faith group on numerous occasions with various acknowledgments and rewards for their volunteer services. Notably, they even received the City of Colton Volunteer Service Award, which is given to organizations who make a positive impact in the community. The Church of God has also received medals, awards, plaques from governments and organizations from around the world. The mission of the World Mission Society Church of God is to make the whole earth Mother’s Street. Just as a mother’s helping hands are warm, peaceful, and selfless, we hope to carry out these characteristics by filling our communities with laughter, passion, and life by participating in cleaning campaigns worldwide.
