About a dozen members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside worked registers and got a behind-the-scenes look at Old Navy in Riverside on July 29. Those experiences were part of Camp Old Navy, a partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America that gives youth their first job experience in Old Navy stores and promotes job readiness. Old Navy is also collecting register donations for Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide through its #Unlimited campaign until Aug. 19. On July 29, members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside watched orientation videos that are shown to new Old Navy employees. Afterward, Club members said they learned about safety, and how to spot and approach shoplifters. Club members got a store tour from training and service manager Susana Diaz, and then it was time to get to work. Members took turns helping cashiers ring up purchases at the front of the store, and asked customers if they wanted to make a donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs. “It was fun because you get to interact with the people. It’s fun to get to know them … and you have to type in the numbers,” said Anthony Clayton Lewis, 13. Karissa McDonald, 11, said she had fun working the register and scanning merchandise. Old Navy will match customer donations up to $500,000, and is also giving 20 percent of each #Unlimited T-shirt sold to the Clubs. Old Navy has supported Boys & Girls Clubs through Camp Old Navy for 15 years, and more than 80,000 young people have participated in the program.
