Oct. 18 was one of those days that you will remember for a long time... GTHS Football was well represented with players, parents, boosters and alumni at the Bowling Skills portion of the Special Olympics held at Brunswick Bowl in Moreno Valley. The Special Olympics has been around for 45 years, they have provided opportunities for people with special needs to participate and compete in different athletic events throughout the world. Each volunteer was given a lane to watch over and support participating olympians. When asked how it felt to help: "It felt good to help because I knew I was doing a good thing to volunteer with the Special Olympics and I learned that the people we helped weren't different from us," said Matt Mazza (Junior, GTHS Varsity Football team) and Jordan Ham (Junior, GTHS Varsity Football team). "No matter what group you work with, you can learn from the people you are helping and your fellow volunteers. It can make a difference doing something small that has a big impact on others." "We couldn't have asked for a better group of young men to go and help today," said Jeanette Valadez (GTHS Football Boosters President). "They all did their part and made today that much more special, leaving with a new look at people with special needs," she added. Thanks to all that volunteered: GTHS FOOTBALL PLAYERS: Daniel Homes, Christian Jimenez, Kevin Marcynszyn, Jared Carnell, Jannik Deseniss, Eddie Montoya III, Braden Kane, Jose Barron, Chris Montono, Jordan Ham and Matt Mazza. VOLUNTEERS: Jeanette and Conrad Valadez, Joe Valadez, Anna Cardenas, Tina Holmes, Vanessa and Mariah Mazza and Carrie Hetrick. The Inland Empire Regional Fall Games (soccer & softball) will be held Saturday, Oct. 25 at Big League Dreams Sports Park Perris Valley. We invite the public to come out to cheer on the athletes from the Inland Empire and surrounding regions as they showcase their talents in the sports of soccer and softball. Opening ceremonies are set for 9:30 a.m. with competition to follow. Big League Dreams Sports Park is located at 2155 Trumble Road in Perris, Calif.
