COLTON>> Arrowhead Regional Medical Center recently announced the national certification of its Diabetes Self-Management Education Program. ARMC’s Diabetes Program was recently accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators, a National Accredited Organization, certified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The newly-certified program titled "Drive" is set to empower patients to be in the “driver’s seat” as they strive to control their diabetes and achieve their wellness goals. According to the 2013 report of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, San Bernardino County has the highest rate of diabetes in Southern California at 9.3 percent, affecting nearly 90,000 lives. AADE’s accreditation assures that ARMC’S program meets the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support. Programs that meet these criteria are considered high quality and have been shown to improve the health status of individuals who embrace the knowledge, make behavior change goals and work toward achievement of these goals with the assistance of diabetes educators. “With our accreditation in place, we can continue with plans to expand our program with more classes in more locations throughout the county," said Dr. Suvesh Chandiok M.D., F.A.C.E., Clinical Professor, University of California, Riverside (UCR), School of Medicine, and Director of the Diabetes Specialty Clinic and Chair of the Advisory Board. "Thanks to the efforts and vision of the Diabetes Advisory Board, a dedicated group of physicians, pharmacists, social workers, nurses, dietitians, managers and administrators, our Diabetes Self-Management Education Program is now a reality.”
