SAN BERNARDINO>> On the morning of Dec. 2, 2016, many friends, family, community members, county employees and more joined the San Bernardino Board of Supervisors in observing a moment of silence for the victims of the terrorist attack on Dec. 2, 2015, one year ago. "We lost 14 of our county's family a year ago," said San Bernardino County Supervisor Curt Hagman, in a statement. "They were fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, sons and daughters - each precious life was a vital part of the fabric of our community, and we will forever be less whole because they are no longer with us. My heart goes out to the families and friends who lost loved ones to a selfish act of hatred." A light resembling an arrowhead was displayed on the hills of San Bernardino in honor of those affected by the Dec. 2, 2015 terrorist attack. Rep. Pete Aguilar released a statement in reflection of the one-year anniversary of the terrorist attack. “As we mark the one-year anniversary since the horrific attack in San Bernardino, my heart goes out to the victims’ families and to the survivors who are still fighting every day to heal and move forward,” Aguilar said. “In the year since the tragedy, we have consistently seen the strength and determination of our community. We have stayed strong by standing together, refusing to give into hate or to let this senseless act of violence define us or divide us. As we reflect on that terrible day, we should hold ourselves to the same standard.” Aguilar said the survivors and their families need support and access to care to recuperate. “I pledge to them that I will not stop fighting until they receive the treatment they deserve,” Aguilar said. “I will also continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to return federal funds to our community to offset the costs incurred from our law enforcement’s heroic response on that dark day. On Dec. 2, 2015, Syed Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, fatally shot 14 county employees at the Inland Regional Center and injured many others physically, mentally and emotionally.
