With warm hearts of years of memories, family and friends gathered to remember and honor the life of Robert Carl Hill, Jr., a Highland resident who passed away Aug. 2, 2016. Erika Johnson, niece to Hill and his wife, Margaret Hill, spoke during the services about the love she has for her uncle and the impact he made on the lives of those he met. "Many of us have learned valuable skills and lessons from Bob over the years," Johnson said. "The one thing he didn't teach us was how to live without the sound of his laughter that came deep from his soul. Life well lived, life well loved." Eddie Bynum, nephew to Hill, said Hill was positive, motivated and taught them the values of life at an early age. For numerous years, Hill was employed by the County of San Bernardino. After his career working the county, he worked as a supervisor of the maintenance crew for Fedco. During this time, he also worked as owner and CEO of Red-Leg Building Maintenance Company, in which he retired from in 1999. Barbara Scott joined Fedco when Hill was the supervisor and became good friends throughout the years. "He had an infectious spirit and laugh," Scott said. "Anytime I was having a bad day or he would see me looking down, he knew how to cheer me up. He was always a good friend and there when you needed someone." Scott recalled he always had something to eat in his office and said he was always her inspiration. Earl Grant, Hill's friend for more than 40 years, said Hill was a great pinochle partner and that they enjoyed playing cards. More than that, Grant said he was a true and devoted friend. "He was warm-hearted, giving and a very kind person," Grant said. Robert is survived by his wife, Margaret Hill; children, Jacqueline D. Hill, Anner Minette Hinds and Robert C. Hill, III; sisters Beverly McCabe and Linda Austin; brother Michael Austin; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, Uncle Jimmy Jimmerson, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Alma Ruth Austin; brothers John Hill, Cornelius Austin, Jr. and Darrell Austin; and granddaughter Najah Hill.
