Moreno Valley Parks and Community Services Department finished up their Spring-filled activity series with a Spring Easter Chef’s Workshop at TownGate Community Center on Tuesday, March 31. They started the seasonal series of community events on March 27 with a free Easter Egg Hunt at Sunnymead Park, a “Bunny Brunch” at the Senior Center following the egg hunt, and a craft event “Hop Down the Craft Trail” at TownGate Community Center, and concluded the fun with the Chef’s Workshop on Tuesday night, March 31. The workshop kicked off at 6 p.m., where kids were able to whip up some sweet spring and Easter-themed treats. According to Moreno Valley Recreation Leader Alexondra Washington, there was a big turnout with about 20 kids signing up to participate in this year’s workshop. As the room filled with youth community members and their parents, they began to combine their baking skills with their creativity. One of the treats the children created was a birdhouse made out of graham crackers, edible grass, soft, marshmallow peeps to go inside, and many more tasty edible tools. “There were also bunny race cars that were made out of Twinkies, and Cheetos were used as carrots,” Washington explained. “We all had a lot of fun.” As the kids would make their birdhouses, race cars, and other fun treats, the parents were allowed to join in and help but all participants seemed to create the spring-themed treats on their own. “They usually don’t need help when they’re making it,” she explained. After about two hours of working hard and creating their treats, all the kids were able to take their masterpieces home with them. “Most of the time, the treats don’t make it all the way home,” Washington chuckled. “I would say their favorite part was finally getting to eat the treats,” she shared, “even though the process of actually making them was also a lot of fun.” The Moreno Valley Parks and Community Services Department holds various seasonal activities like this one every year.
