Lions Eyes Across California

The Lions Club of California came together on Saturday, March 28, to collect prescription glasses to be dispensed to California Lions Friends in Sight who will then distribute the glasses to those in need at one of their many sight clinics held around the Inland Empire 2-3 times each month at varying locations and twice annually in Mexico. The Grand Terrace Lions Club collected 1,600 pairs of glasses; the project, chaired by Lion Christina Lucas, had 17 volunteers who worked a combined 110 hours. The Lions Clubs of California collects pairs of glasses throughout the year. Donation boxes can be found locally throughout the community and at the Lions Community Center on Barton Road. The eyeglasses collected are cleaned, disinfected, verified and cataloged into storage containers based on power, lens style and frame style such as men's, women's, boy's or girl's. Lions Eyes Across California was a project developed by the 15 first Vice District Governor's of California's Multiple District 4; chaired by 1st VDG Richard Davis from Ventura County District 4A3 and Grand Terrace Lion 1st VDG David Radtke from Riverside and San Bernardino County District 4L5. 1st VDG Governor Radtke's District 4L5 had 22 clubs participate, collecting over 8,600 glasses and logging approximately 500 volunteer hours placing 4L5 near the top of participation and total glasses collected of those district's participating throughout California. Over 220 Lions Clubs throughout California participated in this project to bring awareness to the need of recycling prescription glasses for many individuals that do not have the means to obtain prescription eyeglasses. The clubs throughout California collected a total of 47,602 glasses with over 3,000 volunteer hours logged.
