GRAND TERRACE, COLTON>> The Grand Terrace Senior Center recently awarded several Colton and Grand Terrace high school students with scholarships.

The event took place during Senior Award Night, which coincided with Luau night.

Over forty students attended the event, along with fourteen senior citizens.

It was a night full of dancing and games. Students and seniors played spoons, card games, pictionary, pool and more.

All of the students were part of the Senior Centers volunteer program, which the seniors and the students credited as being mutually beneficial.

“The learned a lot about each other,” said Volunteer Director of Senior Services Flo Elliott. “The seniors think this place is much better with the kids here and I feel much better about leaving the world to the younger generation.”

During the event, several students were presented with scholarships. These students are as follows:

Ligia Camey, is going to med school for a B.A. in science or Biology. She will be attending CSU San Bernardino.

Noemi Tapia will be going to UC Davis, where she will enter a career in helping others. Tapia was president of the Leos club for the past year.

She states that being at the senior center made l like she was at home and she loved interacting with so many wonderful people.

The students who received their scholarships were extremely grateful t o the senior center, but the senior center was also grateful to them. “The seniors loved having the kids around,” said Flo Eliott. “These kids were wonderful all the time and were always helpful.”
