COLTON>> Sycamore Hills Elementary, of the Colton Joint Unified School District, has recently been named to the 2016 California Honor Roll by the Education Results Partnership and the Campaign for Business and Educational Excellence.

The California Honor Roll program recognizes public elementary, middle, and high schools in California that have demonstrated academic improvement, or who have managed to close the achievement gap amongst their students.

In 2016, nearly 2,000 schools were recognized for the Honor Roll, which not only helps identify high-achieving schools, but passes on methods of success to other neighboring schools.

“We are proud to recognize those schools and school districts who are succeeding in putting their students on a path of productivity that not only leads to success in the classroom, but also prepares them to contribute to and benefit from a more productive economy,” said Greg Jones, ERP and CBEE Board Chairman. “Leadership from both education and the business community is critical to linking success from one system to the next, and ensuring that students have the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve a college degree and the financial security of a living wage job.”

Sycamore Hills Principal Cecilia Smith contributed her school's success to their philosophy and mission.

"Sycamore Hills’ vision of ‘making the world a better place’ is built upon a foundation that exemplifies mutual respect, valuing of others, and high academic standards by all stakeholders,” Smith said. “We embrace the belief that each and every student, parent and staff member contributes to the success of Sycamore Hills. Sycamore Hills’ high attendance and achievement are a testament to this school community’s belief that we are making a difference in the lives of others each and every day and truly ‘making the world a better place.’”
