A manufacturing plant for the relaunch of Fisker Automotive and Technology's group's hybrid vehicle will open in Moreno Valley, a press release issued earlier this week said. The auto manufacturer will open the 555,670 square-foot plant at 17100 Perris Blvd. in Moreno Valley, the city's south industrial area, to help relaunch the Karma hybrid electric automobile, according to the release. Moreno Valley is the newest home of the Costa Mesa-based automotive manufacturer after several weeks of negotiations between developer First Industrial Realty Trust and the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz). City officials estimated about 150 job opportunities as a result of the plant opening and said Fisker intends to feature its Moreno Valley facility as a showroom to provide tours of the car manufacturing process. "This is a landmark moment for our City," said Mayor Jesse Molina. "Fisker's presence will provide a tremendous long term benefit for the future of Moreno Valley and the State of California. The City is very proud to welcome Fisker and we are grateful that the company is committed to hiring from Moreno Valley's highly qualified workforce," he said. "Fisker believes in the quality, work ethic and competitiveness of manufacturing in the USA," said Jim Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer of Fisker. "California's natural beauty, trend setting, technology, and environmental focus are perfectly aligned with our Karma re-launch." Several other organizations collaborated on this project, including the City of Moreno Valley Economic Development Team, March Joint Powers Authority, Riverside County Workforce Development, South Coast Air Quality Management District, Southern California Gas Company, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and others.
