LOMA LINDA >> The 2016 Healthy People in Healthy Communities Conference will be held at the Loma Linda University Drayson Center March 8 and 9, 2016. A number of influential speakers, including Philip F. Mangano, president and CEO of the American Round Table to Abolish Homelessness will be on hand to offer their expertise on Building a Culture of Health, this year’s conference theme. Mangano has worked with San Bernardino County leaders to make major inroads to the war against homelessness. Mangano is participating to help bring national awareness to the great accomplishments San Bernardino County has achieved in the last year to reduce homelessness in the county, specifically among veterans. Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck will offer the keynote address on day two of the conference. Hasbrouck is the executive director of the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), which represents nearly 2,800 local health departments. He spent 11 years with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), where he co-authored the first Surgeon General’s Report on Youth Violence (2001) and was engaged in polio eradication and HIV/AIDS issues. He also served in a diplomatic assignment as the CDC director in Guyana, South America. Krystal Gheen, the Healthy People in Healthy Communities Conference organizer, states, “This year we have a number of city, county, public health and health system leaders from Riverside and San Bernardino Counties joining together to participate in this conference. This effort is indicative of the dedication and commitment our region’s leadership has toward building a culture of health and wholeness in the Inland Empire.” This year’s conference will explore making health a shared value, fostering cross-sector collaboration to improve well-being, creating healthier and more equitable communities and strengthening the integration of health services and systems. The 2016 Healthy People in Healthy Communities conference, March 8-9, is a platform for collaboration between Loma Linda University and others to define strategies for improving the population’s health, enhance overall well-being, and foster greater equity in our society. The conference is being sponsored by Loma Linda University Health, Loma Linda University School of Public Health, Kaiser Permanente and the Health Ministries Division of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Registration for Healthy People in Healthy Communities is now open. Join us for one or both days of the conference. Student admission is $99 per day or $149 for both days, and general admission is $249 per day or $349 for both days.
