Since 2011, a group of dedicated individuals led by Chairman Robert Lavin have given of their time and talents to build a monument for veterans and families of veterans locally, in honor of every military member who has served their country in times past and into the future. The idea of creating this Veterans Wall of Freedom Project has now grown from a simple seed to a beautiful flower that is about to bloom. Through the generosity of several individuals, groups, and corporate sponsors, the Freedom Wall construction costs are nearly funded, and the final fund raising efforts are being instituted now to make the Wall a reality this November for the Veterans Day celebration. The initial cost of construction was approximately $100,000 and the committee has raised nearly $80,000 to apply to that cost. The project location has been secured at Pico Park in the City of Grand Terrace, the plans have been drafted and are now complete, building permits have been pulled, contractors have been selected and are ready to start, and the project plan is ready to be instituted. The remaining $20,000 of donations are the last hurdle for construction to begin. The goal of having a monument to recognize the service and sacrifice of the veterans who gave us our freedoms being so close to reality is "unbelievable”. “It says a lot that so many veterans from different communities have joined and supported the efforts of the Veterans Wall of Freedom committee in building this memorable structure here in Grand Terrace; they realize it is centrally located and freeway accessible for everyone’s families,” said Lavin. As can be seen, the building of the Wall is not free; please help the committee cross the finish line in making it happen by being a sponsor, Freedom sponsor ($10,000), Gold Sponsor ($5,000), Silver Sponsor ($1,000), or Bronze Sponsor ($100). All contributions are tax deductible. Checks should be made out to the “Foundation of Grand Terrace” designated for the “Veterans Wall of Freedom.” The committee would like to thank the current Freedom Sponsors for making the commitment to help fund this project at the Freedom level of $10,000 or more. In-kind contributions by some meant that valuable service or materials have been contributed in the amount of $10,000 or more. Current Freedom Sponsors are: San Bernardino County (Supervisor James Ramos, chairman), Grand Terrace Lions Club, Beverly Rainbolt (In honor of William M. Rainbolt Family), Dignity-Montecito Memorial (In-Kind), City News Group (Margie Miller-In Kind). Please view all current information on our website—www.VETERANSWALLOFFREEDOM.ORG
