SBVC Men’s Soccer Alumnus Solares Named as Head Coach at Maine-Machias

San Bernardino Valley College alumnus and former Assistant Coach Juan "Mikey" Solares, was appointed men’s soccer head coach at University of Maine at Machias starting the 2015-2016 season. Coach Solares (Montebello George M. Schurr) played for San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team where he was team captain and earned All-Conference Honors during his time as an SBVC student athlete. Following, Solares transferred to the University of Maine at Machias (UMM) where he played for three seasons, and assisted two teams to undefeated Conference Championships and two National Tournament appearances. According to the UMMClippers.com, Solares also earned honors at UMM such as Player of the Week, YSCC Eastern All Conference, and USCAA All American Honorable Mention. Solares, graduated from the University of Maine at Machias with a B.A. in Psychology, where he then returned to SBVC as an Assistant Coach for the men's soccer program. Solares has great expectations as UMM's new men's head soccer coach. Feeling honored and complete joy, he wishes to pass on all the knowledge, discipline, and values he came upon while being a student athlete at UMM. Also planning to assist the men's team in reaching their ultimate goal of becoming champions again and reaching its maximum potential. University of Maine at Machias (pronounced /mat-jays/) is located in the town of Machias, Maine about 30 miles southwest of the U.S./Canada border and about 325 miles northeast of Boston. The University of Maine at Machias Clippers play at the Clippers soccer field and is in the Yankee Small College Conference of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
