World Mission Society Church of God Paints Cesar Chavez Park

COLTON >> On Sunday, Feb. 14, about 80 members of the World Mission Society Church of God put their painting skills to the test by painting the picnic tables and trash bins at Cesar Chavez Park. The park is centrally located in the city of Colton and offers recreation facilities such as basketball courts and a swimming pool to Colton residents. However, the park had a large number of unkempt picnic tables and trash cans with old paint chipping off. Seeing that it was time for the park to get a makeover, the City of Colton partnered up with the World Mission Society Church of God to give the picnic tables a new look. The Church showed up Sunday, brushes in hand, and gave the tables a nice new coat of green. Members did their best to scrape off old paint and put a new coat of paint on each picnic table. Many of the tables were heavily vandalized and covered in graffiti. However, the new coat of paint covered all the previous blemishes and gave a fresh look to the community. Peter Cha of the World Mission Society Church of God explained the Church’s purpose of the event: “Our hope is that through this event our community can unite together to make a better place to live. With 80 members we were able to make a big improvement to this park. If we can unite with all 52,000 residents of Colton how much more can we achieve?” To show his appreciation to the members of the Church of God, Mayor Richard DeLaRosa treated the members to some pizza and explained to the members the impact of their volunteer works. “As you know the city of Colton is an underserved community… We really need to work together as government agencies and faith-based groups to make a better community, to make better lives every day for the hardworking families of Colton.” This event was just one of many collaborative events between the city of Colton and the World Mission Society Church of God. This is one of the many Worldwide Environmental Cleanup Campaigns for the Church of God as a whole, and the organization looks forward to continuing the mission. The Church of God invites anyone who would like to participate in future events or do Bible studies to stop by their church on South Mount Vernon Ave. in Colton.
