$5,000 Donated to Help Provide Groceries

Community Settlement Association is pleased to accept a grant of $5,000 from Bank of America. The bank’s basic human services grant will support Settlement’s Emergency Food Program which provides groceries three times a week to as many as 195 low-income people per day of Riverside’s Eastside. Thirty to fifty percent of the recipients are also homeless. In the fiscal year ending June 2014 1, 114 unduplicated individuals were served with a total of 19,053 units of service provided. Sixty thousand pounds of food were donated by Inland Harvest and from various groups such as North High School ASB. Another 60,000 pounds were purchased from Feeding America, formerly known as Second Harvest. “Having the support of a financial institution such as Bank of America is very important to community organizations such as Community Settlement,” says Board President Damon Castillo. “We thank them for their support and corporate involvement in Settlement’s efforts to help meet Eastside residents’ basic need for food.” Bank of America awards basic human service grants every year to local non-profits offering programming and resources for housing, hunger, workforce education and other basic human services which help communities thrive. “We know that non-profits play a huge role in helping our local economies and we’ve seen firsthand the tremendous impact that Community Settlement Association has had in Riverside,” said Al Arguello, Inland Empire Market President, Bank of America.
