Frank Reyes, a retired college educator with 35 years of experience, is running for the position on the San Bernardino Community College District Board of Trustees for Area 1. Reyes has experience working at San Bernardino Valley College, the San Bernardino Community College District and Crafton Hills College for 33 years, in which he has worked as a counselor, professor, Director of Community Services and as Associate Vice Chancellor of Governmental Affairs. “I'm not a politician, but I have spent many years working with some of the best and some of the worst,” Reyes said. “It is clear that the best representatives remember who they represent and have the capability to do so.” Reyes said he is proud to have led the district to receive more than $120 million in grants for the benefit of the colleges and district. He said with his knowledge and deep concern for the education of the community, he will fight for the benefit of the community. “Education is the best equalizer and we must provide every opportunity to our students,” Reyes said. “We know that a college degree isn't for everyone, but we also know that every student should have every opportunity to make that decision with all the information before them.” He said the colleges in the district offer many programs ranging from certificate programs in welding/refrigeration/and others, specific training, associate of arts degrees, transfer programs and 4-year colleges and universities. “We have something for everyone and everyone should know they are welcome at our colleges, centers and districts," he said. "We are training our residents for the 21st-century jobs and I want the SBCCD to be part of their future.” Reyes said voters should vote for him because of his experience and qualifications. “No other candidate has spent the years involved in higher education,” he said. “My goal is to provide the educational opportunities our students need, the quality education they deserve and the brighter future we all are fighting for.” With the experience he has in the district, Reyes said he knows how to get the grants that help the students and colleges. He said he would travel to Washington D.C. 7-8 times a year to present educational proposals to elected officials. "With almost 35 years experience in the very district I will represent, I am uniquely positioned to start day one with a historical knowledge that will take any other candidate years to achieve," Reyes said. "I know the faculty and staff's needs, I know the student's needs and I know the community's needs. I have spent my entire career in higher education and I will use this knowledge and experience for the benefit of everyone." Reyes is a board member of the Economic Development and Corporate Training Foundation and the SBCCD-HSI Advisory Board, as well as a committee member for the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities International Committee, the SBCCD Oversight Committee and SB County Sheriff Advisory Council for Sheriff John McMahon. “Area 1 is a newly-formed area for the San Bernardino Community College District Board and I want to bring my 33 years of experience to lead our District to provide many more opportunities for our students,” Reyes said. “I have been a tireless advocate for higher education and would be honored to help shape the future for our district.” Paid for by Committee to Elect Frank Reyes for San Bernardino Community College District Board of Trustees Area 1 2016
