Crafton Hills College is offering workshops and featuring a performance of four artists from Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday, March 22, beginning at 10 a.m. The collaborative presentation is directed by Professor Snezana Saraswati Petrovic, art faculty at CHC. The performers are Satomi Akustsu, dancer, choreographer and yoga instructor; Takeshi Kanemura, painter and performance artist; Ranwakaba, motion graphic artist and illustrator; and Hiroshi Shimizu, percussionist/phonographer. The following workshops will occur from 10 a.m. – Noon in LRC-226: Hiroshi Shimizu: “Small Sounds” -- An introductory lecture for searching a sense of peculiar sound from traditional & contemporary Japanese sound scape design. Shimizu invites you to incorporate interactive sounds in an environment, not only using your body but also expanding your imagination. Satomi Akutsu: "Butoh movement: In search for self" -- Akutsu is a contemporary Butoh dancer, choreographer, and Yoga instructor. She blends all of her dance methods, producing an experimental study of body movements in her workshop. Allowing one to find a sense of awareness by incorporating breathing and feeling. Ranwakaba: "Video Art, Space and Manga Culture" -- Ranwakaba introduces Japan’s cutting edge and hot Anime/Manga culture using motion graphics and illustrations. Ranwakaba also demonstrates how graphic elements are incorporated with a visual space and surrounding environment. Takeshi Kanemura: "Performing self" -- Kanemura always interacts with his audience members to create a “self-realizing” environment. This environment reflects the viewers’ self-awareness as inspired by everyday objects, and vibrates ambiance. A group performance will follow at Noon in the Finkelstein Performing Arts Center. Crafton Hills College is located at 11711 Sand Canyon Road in Yucaipa.
