On Saturday, Dec. 10, the City of Colton’s residents filled the streets of La Cadena Avenue to watch the Annual Colton Christmas Parade. The parade began at 10 a.m. filling the streets with snowman decorations, nativity scenes and classic cars. Candy and toys were passed out to the children in the public, as each child could be seen with a small bag of candy and either a teddy bear or a ball. Many city councilmen and board members from organizations made an appearance in cars decorated with Christmas lights and tinsel. They also helped throw candy to the children and waved as they went by to all of the city’s residents who had turned out for the event. Colton High School marching band made an appearance along with multiple churches and organizations. Mary Jane Mota and Julaa Tabeera participated in the parade representing local Girl Scout Troop 11. “The parade was amazing; we got to throw candy, and the best part was getting to see Santa Claus,” Mota said. After the parade was finished residents were invited to attend a Christmas in the Park event at Fleming Park. Live music, fun zone and food vendors filled the area as residents made their way to the park. “Everybody getting together is really cool since were able to celebrate Christmas together in a way,” Tabeera said. The event was considered a success by many Colton residents as it brought together the community and gave the children of the city something to cherish. “I think it’s important we have these type of events because the community comes together to show unity and bring in the true good spirit,” said Jeanette Duran, a Colton resident.
