Moreno Valley welcomes Captain David Kurylowicz as the City’s new Police Chief. He assumes this key leadership position with more than 25 years of law enforcement experience with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

In his new role, Chief Kurylowicz will lead approximately 160 sworn staff and 45 civilian employees who provide a full range of law enforcement services including Patrol, Investigations, Special Enforcement Teams, Burglary/Robbery Suppression, Problem Oriented Policing, Traffic, Crime Prevention, Graffiti Prevention and Community Service Officers.

“Our new Chief brings so much to this key position,” said Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez. “Immediately following his graduation from Moreno Valley High School, Captain Kurylowicz embarked upon his public service career right here in our City. His appointment as Moreno Valley’s Police Chief brings his stellar career full circle, and provides our community with a superbly talented law enforcement leader who understands the needs of local residents and businesses.”

After graduating from Moreno Valley High School, the Chief began his law enforcement career as a Reserve Officer in Moreno Valley in 1992. His experience includes also service as a Correctional Deputy, Sheriff’s Deputy, Hostage Negotiator, Investigator and Sergeant. As a Lieutenant, he supervised operations in the Coroner/Public Administrator Bureau and led Sheriff’s Communications functions. Prior to his promotion to serve as Chief of Police, Captain Kurylowicz managed Patrol operations for Moreno Valley’s Police Department.

“While Captain Kurylowicz has clearly distinguished himself as an experienced law enforcement professional, I was particularly moved by the deep understanding and compassion he shows for our community,” said City Manager Michelle Dawson. “It’s a delight to welcome David to his new role as our Police Chief.”

The City of Moreno Valley receives police services through a contract with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Through this agreement, Moreno Valley’s Police Department provides service to the City’s nearly 210,000 residents with a current annual budget of approximately $42 million.
