GRAND TERRACE>> At the 6th Annual Unforgettable Hearts Awards hosted on Friday, Feb. 10 at the Fox Theater in Redlands, many were recognized for their efforts in helping those in need across the Inland Empire. Among those recognized for their outstanding efforts was Grand Terrace business owner and resident, Kacy Carlsen. Carlsen is an active community member and business owner. She and her husband have owned Cal Skate, located in Grand Terrace, for 13 years, and through their marketing and branding company UpDog Media, they donate print and web services to several non-profit organizations. Carlsen is the Vice President of the Grand Terrace Area Chamber of Commerce; a board member of Healthy GT, an organization that promotes health and wellness in the community by providing resources to residents on how to lead a healthy lifestyle; board member of Living 4 Giving GT, a non-profit that provides holiday meals and toys at Christmas and back-to-school supplies to local needy families. She is also a member of the Business Women’s association of San Bernardino County, which is a group of professional and influential women with the goal to build friendships and business. “For me giving is the best feeling on earth. I find it very rewarding to make a difference in someone’s life,” Carlsen said. Carlsen is new to the Unforgettables Foundation and became involved last year by helping in promoting events, donating and providing print services. She said she hopes to become more involved each year by continuing to help and promote the organization in as many ways as possible. At the ceremony, she received a certificate of recognition from State Senator Morell, San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Connie Leyva and Assembly Member Eloise Reyes for her work in the Inland Empire. “I had absolutely no idea I was nominated for this award. I was really shocked, not expected at all,” Carlsen said. Carlsen said she is extremely proud to be part of the Unforgettables Foundation and praised its founder, Tim Evans, whom she described as an amazing man with a "beautiful heart that puts large amounts of love into his foundation." Carlsen plans on furthering her involvement in her current organizations and continue to be a resource to other community non-profits. “I did not do this alone. I have an amazing team at both businesses that provide me the opportunity of time and resources,” Carlsen explained. “Without them and their contributing talents I could not be a value to the organizations we assist. These awards belong to them as well.”
