The city of Grand Terrace had another birthday (36th) which was celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 10. The city’s Historical and Cultural Committee hosted a dinner for invitees with the newly-elected Mayor Darcy McNaboe serving as the event's emcee. There were many past and present dignitaries in attendance, and Mayor McNaboe made sure all were introduced. This year’s event was held on a Wednesday evening following the Tuesday evening council meeting introducing the newly-elected council members and mayor. The birthday celebration had over 100 locals in attendance, with a featured presentation highlighting the different programs and accomplishments at Grand Terrace High School. Principal Angela Dischinger presided over the program and has served as an integral piece in the overall success the high school has achieved in both the educational curriculum and extra-curricular activities in its young life. As she has said in her message to the students at the beginning of the 2014-15 school year, “Through the implementation of the Linked Learning pathways, Common Core standards, integrating technology Google apps for Education (GAFE) into the classroom, our goal is to have every student succeed. This can be accomplished because every member of our staff is dedicated to the highest standards and the highest expectations for Grand Terrace High School.” This theme was broken down for those in attendance at the party, by Principal Dischinger saying “Titans... Be Great... Graduate!” Of course the word "Great" was further explained to mean G—Generosity, R—Respect, E—Excellence, A—Accountability and T—Teamwork. She said, “If the students follow this mantra throughout their time in high school, they will graduate and move on to further greatness.” Currently, there are six counselors with over 100 years of experience to assist the students in achieving their goals and aspirations. Dischinger finished by saying, “I am so proud of my teachers and staff who are overseeing approximately 2,400 students, at this time. Following the presentation, the current city council performed the cake-cutting ceremony recognizing the city’s 36th Birthday.
