Community Brainstorms for a Better San Bernardino

City residents who want a say in San Bernardino's future still have two chances to help craft the City of San Bernardino's vision during the last two Community Roadshow meetings this month. As with the first three Community Roadshow meetings, hosted by the city of San Bernardino and the San Bernardino City Unified School District at various schools throughout the month, residents will have the opportunity to voice concerns and take an active role in creating a stronger, more vibrant city. The remaining roadshow events are being held Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Indian Springs High School, 650 North Del Rosa Drive, and Thursday, Feb. 26, at Arrowview Middle School, 2299 North G Street. Both meetings will begin at 6 p.m. San Bernardino Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Dale Marsden, who lives in San Bernardino, said the district has partnered with the city because it has a vested interest in seeing the community thrive, saying "As San Bernardino retools and works to emerge from bankruptcy, it is important that our school district support our City’s efforts to make life better for all its residents. A safer, more prosperous city means greater opportunities for our students to succeed. That’s why everyone who lives here needs to be a part of this. It’s time to come together for the sake of our children.” The Community Roadshow events allow participants to open a dialogue with others who care about the city. Organizers and city leaders hope to use this input to develop a personalized strategic plan that will help the city emerge from bankruptcy, San Bernardino Mayor Carey Davis said. “We feel it’s important to engage the community in not only recognizing and setting priorities but also to follow through and make sure the plan is implemented,” said Davis. The meetings are open to residents of all ages. A student art contest is also being organized around the theme, "We Love Our City, We Love Our Schools." Spanish language interpretation is available and free childcare will be provided for children ages 3 to 12. Those unable to attend the roadshow meetings may watch them live on the Inland Empire Media Group website, www.iemediagroup.org. Additionally, the city is seeking input from residents via an online survey, which you may take here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SanBernardino_Residents.
