MORENO VALLEY>> On Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., the Moreno Valley Police Department Community Services Unit and Burglary Suppression Team conducted an operation aimed at reducing residential and vehicle burglaries. During the operation, police explorers and volunteers met with the public to discuss the safety of their home and vehicles. The Moreno Valley Police Department distributed more than 500 informational pamphlets directed toward decreasing the chances of being victimized. During this same time frame, members of the Burglary Suppression Team conducted a proactive patrol in the area. Christopher King, 27 years old from the city of Moreno Valley, was contacted in the area of Eucalyptus Avenue and Day Street. King was in possession of burglary tools and suspected methamphetamine. He was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center. The Moreno Valley Police Department said they would like to encourage the public to: make your home look occupied, and make it difficult to break in; lock valuable items away; use curtains and locks on all windows and the garage; have outside lighting and motion sensing lighting in both the front and back yard and consider an alarm or surveillance system. After purchasing pricey electronics or appliances, the police department also encourages residents to not leave the box out beside the trash can or recycling bin. The department also encourages residents to create a neighborhood watch program with the police department, and if you see something suspicious, report it immediately to (951) 247-8700. If there is an emergency please call 9-1-1.
