Construction is scheduled to begin this week on Phase II of the Orange Blossom Trail project. Construction of the one-mile segment is expected to be completed by late April. On Dec. 15, 2015, the City Council awarded a construction contract for $692,873 to C.S. Legacy of Pomona. All project costs are grant funded. No General Fund dollars will be used to construct this project. The project will construct an approximately one-mile section of trail from Alabama Street to California Street within San Bernardino County Flood Control right-of-way. In areas where space permits (mostly west of Nevada Street), the Orange Blossom Trail will be a dual track trail, with both a paved trail for fast traffic such as bicycles and a reinforced decomposed granite trail for pedestrian traffic. The overall Orange Blossom Trail is proposed to construct approximately 7.5 miles of trail between Mountain View Avenue and Wabash Avenue in the City of Redlands. Upon completion, the Orange Blossom Trail will link Redlands to regionally significant outdoor areas such as the Santa Ana River Trail. The Orange Blossom Trail Phase II project will be managed by the City of Redlands Municipal Utilities and Engineering Department. The City will make a concerted effort to minimize disruptions for residents and businesses in the project area. Traffic control may be installed in the area during construction but is anticipated to be removed daily. Work is anticipated between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For information on the project, contact Ross Wittman, project manager, or Greg Brooks, construction manager at (909) 798-7698.
