Several downtown streets have been undergoing road improvements this month as part of the City’s PARIS Resurfacing Project. Repaving on Sixth Street between Citrus and Olive began July 6 and work to improve East State Street as well as Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth and portions of Fifth Street between Redlands Boulevard and Citrus Avenue began. The streets will be closed to automobile traffic for up to two weeks, beginning July 13. All businesses will remain open and the city is taking additional measures to assist visitors in reaching their destinations along those streets. All streets will remain open to pedestrian traffic at all times. In addition, the city will post signs directing visitors to nearby parking areas and will provide all-day shuttle service Monday through Saturday that will run every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout the downtown area. Passengers will be dropped off and picked up curb side to the businesses. The Thursday night Market Night will be cancelled for two weeks, July 16 and 23, and will resume on July 30. Between July 14 and 23, construction and paving will take place on Stuart Avenue between Orange and Eureka streets; Shoppers Lane between Orange Street and Third Avenue; Third Street between Redlands Boulevard and Shoppers Lane; Eureka Street between Brookside Avenue and Stuart Avenue; Kendall Street between Redlands Boulevard and Brookside Avenue; and Vine Street and the Smiley Library access road between Eureka Street and Fourth Street. All areas will be open to vehicle traffic throughout the construction. Repaving on Fern Street between Eureka and Center streets is expected to begin the week of July 13 and completed the following week. Traffic will remain open at all times, although motorists may experience some delays. On July 14 and 22, city contractors will be performing improvements on Pearl Avenue between Orange and Church streets. A third day of work is also expected but has not been scheduled. The street will be closed to all vehicle traffic during construction. All construction dates are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen conditions. The current phase of the PARIS repaving program will include resurfacing of approximately 90 lane miles of streets throughout the City. At the completion of the estimated six-month project, the City will have completed nearly 200 miles of lane resurfacing, or approximately 48 percent of the PARIS project. Work will occur in phases throughout various portions of the City. Completion is anticipated in October 2015. “No Parking” signs will be posted on streets indicating the dates when work will occur and when parking will be prohibited between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, access to properties will be available at all times. Trash collection will occur on normal trash collection days.
