GRAND TERRACE>> Saturday, Sept. 17 marked the second annual homecoming dance of Grand Terrace High School. At 7 p.m., the doors opened to the excitement packed atmosphere of the dance floor. With hanging spotlights and occasional blasts of a fog machine, the stage was filled with all grade levels, including the class of 2016, enjoying services that the school rented such as photo booths, a taco truck, gaming truck and the DJ. The theme of this year's dance was the award-winning Hollywood blockbuster and novel, "The Hunger Games." The theme was present throughout the dance with reference to the royal court as “tributes” and a giant projection on the side of the gym that read, “May the odds be ever in your favor”. All the tables were decorated with black table cloths and vases that lit up with white flowers. Refreshments and food was provided and it was not long until the dance floor was filled with students. At 9 p.m., the music stopped and the crowd fell silent as the winners of the 2016 homecoming king and queen were announced. For homecoming queen, Leanna Sandoval was announced and she crowned winner Seth So as homecoming king. Class of 2017 Leanna Sandoval and Seth So will return next year for the 2017 homecoming dance. After the winners were announced, the dance floor was cleared for the traditional dance of the homecoming court. Everyone crowded around to watch the couples dance as pink and red lights surrounded them along with slow music. After, the homecoming court returned to the gymnasium for a photo shoot and everyone continued to dance. At 11 p.m., the dance came to an end and students enjoyed the last song as they said goodbye to friends.
