The Loma Linda Chamber of Commerce added another jewel to its crown on July 23 with the grand opening of Linda Valley Assisted Living. The Chamber has been a huge part of Loma Linda commerce, helping support businesses in the area - and they continue to aid businesses in this endeavor. The ribbon was cut and a beautiful spread of hors d’ oeuvres, main dishes and desserts were under the spotlight at this event. Many people, including Mayor Rhodes Rigsby, flocked to the location to see the new residential community, which offers Assisted Living and Memory Care. When speaking with Michel Augsberger, part owner of Linda Valley Senior Living, he described how the building will benefit Loma Linda commerce by being a safe haven for seniors looking to live the Adventist lifestyle in a small home-like setting with programming that encourages support. They will be hosting support groups for families of those suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. Augsberger continued by saying that they will also be providing music therapy for residents. The opening of Linda Valley Assisted Living marks the culmination of a 20 year dream to complete their campus of providing multiple levels of senior living options without a large buy in. The staff is dedicated to improving the lives of the seniors they serve, including Kay Perryman, who will lead the support groups. When touring the memory care, her passion for her future residents was clear while discussing the memory boxes outside of each apartment. Since 1970, when the city of Loma Linda was incorporated and the first mayor appointed, the city has endeavored to support and promote the businesses within its limits. This new building is yet another opportunity for Loma Linda to offer an enhanced public perception of Loma Linda and the Chamber, which is part of the shared vision. Businesses practicing in Loma Linda, which translates as “beautiful hill," know of the ethical values held high in this area. Loma Linda has been recognized as a “blue zone” as defined by Dan Buettner, who traveled the world looking for areas where people live longer. Because of the Seventh-day Adventist population in this city and the values held regarding health and longevity, it is not unheard of for people to live well into their nineties or to become centenarians in this area. Linda Valley Senior Living has been a part of this tradition for 20 years, offering vegetarian meals, daily exercise and Vespers services in their independent community and working to continue it in the new Assisted Living, which will be primarily vegetarian with meat options. Nestled between these two buildings is Linda Valley Care Center, which houses a skilled nursing community. Scott Stockdale, current president of the Loma Linda Chamber of Commerce, expressed his appreciation to Linda Valley Senior Living for serving the community for several generations. Stockdale remarked about how impressive it is to see the commitment that this company has made to the seniors of this community moving forward by offering their multiple levels of care to include memory care. The Chamber of Commerce looks forward to helping support another new business in the city of Loma Linda and the opportunity to seek their support in return. Loma Linda continues to move in a forward direction with new businesses and new opportunities for all to enjoy life in this great city. Stockdale shared his appreciation to be a part of this tradition.
