REDLANDS>> The next meeting of the City of Redlands Disaster Council will be held from 4-5 p.m. July 25 in the Redlands City Council Chambers and will be open to the public. The City Disaster Council develops and recommends emergency and mutual aid plans and agreements for consideration and possible adoption by the Redlands City Council. Meetings are held quarterly. For the upcoming meeting, guest speakers will provide information on how Cooling Centers can help during extreme heat. Speakers include Gary Madden, from San Bernardino County 211, who will discuss the role San Bernardino County plays in opening a Cooling Center and its services; and Conrad Calbes, from the City of Redlands, who will provide information about the City’s Cooling Centers. In the previous meeting, held April 25, three speakers spoke about the how the American Red Cross, Verizon Crisis Response Team and San Bernardino County Fire Department Office of Emergency Services work together in a crisis within the community. If a disaster were to occur, the organizations work together by providing shelter, medical and mental care, communications support and food for displaced people. Members of the council include Mayor Paul Foster, who is the Chairperson, City Manager N. Enrique Martinez, who is the Director of Emergency Services and Vice-Chairperson and Emergency Operations Manager Fay Glass. Also included in the council are existing groups that support a strong team merging sectors of the community including elected officials, emergency management, first responders, volunteer services, major industry and commercial, healthcare and education.
