In just 10 weeks, the 26 competitors in this year’s Battle of the Badges pitting correctional officers from state penitentiary in Norco against the San Bernardino Sheriffs lost a total of 988.7 lbs, an average of 5” around the waist and a reduction in their body mass index (BMI) from 39 to 33. But which team of 10 emerged victorious? That honor went to the Norco Rehabilitation Center correctional officers who lost a total of 556 lbs. and, more importantly 15.6% of their body weight. The sheriffs lost 432.7 lbs and 31.4% of their weight. The Battle of the Badges finale was held at the Norco correctional facility. To lose the weight, each participant followed the program detailed in “The New Lean For Life” and placed on a 10-week diet and lifestyle regimen by Lindora, the nation’s largest medical weight loss company. Before the announcement was made, participants carrying giant “before” photos of themselves revealed their new slimmed down bodies one by one. Lindora President and CEO Cynthia Stamper Graff, who also authored “The New Lean For Life,” revealed: · The 26 participants lost an average of 38 lbs each · 73% of the participants lost 30+ lbs, 50% lost 40+ lbs and 5 of the 26 competitors lost 50+ lbs. · Participants lost an average of 5 inches each · 19 men and 7 women ranging in age from 29 – 60 participated The final weigh-in is being held in tandem with National Obesity Care Week, an inaugural event designed to advance a “comprehensive, compassionate and personalized approach to treating obesity as a disease.” It is being held in Los Angeles Nov 1-7. “While obesity has been in the national spotlight in recent years, research shows that family physicians are reluctant to discuss dietary and lifestyle problem with their overweight patients,” said Graff. “By holding our Battle of the Badges finale in conjunction with National Obesity Care Week, we hope to shine the spotlight on this problem and allow this year’s participants to be recognized as the healthy heroes they are.” Battle of the Badges was developed with the mission of helping the estimated 80% of law enforcement who are overweight or obese. All costs for the competition were underwritten by the nonprofit Lean For Life Foundation.
