GRAND TERRACE>> AT&T representatives made a debut at the Grand Terrace Senior Center on April 7. Several of the seniors were excited to learn the new modern advances in technology by interacting on devices such as the iPad. Julio Figueroa, the workshop's host, gave an instructional course on how to use the basic functions on the device. As many as 20 seniors attended, including special guests, Senator Connie Leyva, and Assembly Member Eloise Reyes. AT&T brought 30 iPads for the seniors to practice with, while other senior members brought their own. Seniors were taught how to use the iPad to make phone calls, surf the web, and many other functions that are available on the iPad. They were even given handouts with clear, visible pictures that instructed further usage. Grand Terrace Senior Center was the first of many senior centers who will be introduced to this workshop, which is designed to provide technology education to seniors in the community. Flo Elliott, the Volunteer Director of Senior Services in Grand Terrace, said she enjoyed the event like many others. “They never made us feel like we were dumb,” Elliott said of the AT&T host and volunteers. “Any questions we asked they were ready to help. And we did Face Time!” Volunteers included AT&T employees from different store locations within the cities of San Bernardino and Hemet. The workshop will continue to be demonstrated at different senior centers throughout the area. Elliott, along with many other seniors, was excited to learn the features available on the iPad, and had spent time getting familiar with the devices within the three hour workshop. Many of the seniors enjoyed the course so much, they requested a second workshop.
