Kimberly Crest House and Gardens will be closed for tours during the month of August. However, the third and final quarter of the Second Sunday Program series has been decided on. The Second Sunday programs at Kimberly Crest have grown tremendously within the last year. September, October, November, and December’s Second Sunday programs have a little something for everybody, and who doesn’t love free activities? The Second Sunday event descriptions for the rest of 2015 are listed below: 1. Sept. 13, 1 - 4 p.m., A Kimberly Crest Tasting: With the start of apple season, guests will have the opportunity to pair locally made wines, apples and cheeses at September’s Second Sunday Program. Wine tasting participants must be 21 or over. However, children are invited to take part in Johnny Appleseed-themed activities. There will also be a museum exhibit showcasing some of the home’s beautiful glassware in the Carriage House Gift Shop and Museum. 2. Oct. 11, 1 - 4 p.m., Victorian Halloween: Mrs. Mary Kimberly Shirk’s favorite holiday was Halloween because it was a time for neighbors and family to get together for lighthearted events. To pay homage to Mrs. Shirk’s love of all things Halloween, there will be a special exhibit showcasing some photos of her best costumes as well as some festive pieces found in the home. There will also be complimentary Halloween-inspired crafts for children and a refreshing Halloween snack served in the Victorian era. 3. Nov. 8, 1 - 4 p.m., Giving Thanks: Thanksgiving celebrates all that one is thankful for whether it be family, friends, or good food. So, at November’s Second Sunday program guests are invited to view a special museum exhibit showcasing some of the Kimberly family china used for large family meals like Thanksgiving, see Kimberly Family photos, and view Kimberly family recipes. There will also be complimentary taste testers of those family recipes for guests to try. 4. Dec. 13, 1 - 4 p.m., Victorian Christmas Cheer: The Kimberly Family decorated with Hord ornaments during Christmas. So, on December’s Second Sunday, guests are invited to make a Victorian Christmas ornament to take home. There will also be a museum exhibit in the Carriage House showcasing some of the Kimberly’s beautiful Hord ornaments along with other Victorian Holiday decorations. Christmas cookies and refreshments will be available free of charge. Along with special exhibits and activities offered on Second Sundays, tours of the home are available. For tour pricing or other information, visit KimberlyCrest.org, call 909-792-2111, or email events@kimberlycrest.org.
